Pedigree Discussion
Celtic Royal Genealogy, based on Bartrum, shows Iorwerth's parents as Cynon ap Llywarch Howlbwrch and a daughter of Cadwallon.[1]
Darrell Wolcott shows Iorwerth's grandfather as Llywarch Hwlbwrch of Rhos who served as treasurer for King Gruffudd ap Llewelyn (1039-1063).[3]
Bartrum's pedigree for this family is discussed by Darrell Wolcott, who notes that "Llywarch Hwlbwrch ap Gwrydr Goch ap Heilig ap Glannog... was born c. 1020"[4] and adds a generation (Llywarch Goch): Iorwerth (b c1115) ap Cynan (b c1085) ap Llywarch Goch (b c1055) ap Llywarch Hwlbwrch (b c1020).[3]
The Geni entry for Iorwerth ap Cynan, "Drwyndwn", cites Wolcott's articles and appears to show the pedigree as he describes (e.g., Iorwerth born c1115).[5]
Wolcott has Iorwerth's son, Llywarch Goch, as born c1150 and notes: "Many sources mention a Llywarch Goch ap Llywarch Hwlbwrch, but all then confuse him with the later Llywarch Goch who was father to Llywarch Fychan."[3] Tangwystl ferch Llywarch Goch was the mother of Gruffydd ap Llywelyn the Great.[6]
