=== Life Sketch ===
Henry Dwnn (also Henry Don, Henry Dunn ) (1340-November 1416) was a Welsh nobleman, military and rebel.
«b»Origin «/b»
Dwnn belonged to the ancient Welsh Dwnn family, who in the 14th century were among the most powerful and wealthy Welsh families of the Gentry in Southwest Wales. Dwnn's father Gruffudd Dwnn had been in command of Welsh troops in the 1340s for the Earl of Lancaster, who was also Lord of Kidwelly.
«b»Follower of the Dukes of Lancaster «/b»
Dwnn himself served in 1369 during the Hundred Years War under John of Gaunt in Picardy and Normandy. From 1388 to 1389, Dwnn was steward of Kidwelly, the center of the possessions of the Duchy of Lancaster in southwest Wales. He was considered a ruthless steward and landowner who treated his tenants strictly and partly on the verge of legality. From 1394 to 1395 took Dwnn the campaign of King Richard II. Part in Ireland.
«b»Participation in the Rebellion of Owain Glyndwr «/b»
Despite his close connection to the House of Lancaster, he had joined the Rebellion of Owain Glyndwr by 1403 at the latest and became one of the leaders of the rebellion in Southwest Wales. After he first besieged Dinefwr Castle in vain in 1403, he and his grandson Gruffudd were able to take over the city of Kidwelly in August. The subsequent siege of Kidwelly Castle failed, however, despite support from a French fleet. After the rebels had initially withdrawn in the winter, also failed the next year an attack on the castle. Then he attacked, also in vain, Caernarfon Castle. Dwnn was outlawed in 1407 and confiscated his possessions were John Scudamore awarded the English steward of Kidwelly. Later in the rebellion, Dwnn was captured and imprisoned in Kidwelly Castle and later in Gloucester .
«b»Pardon and Death«/b»
After the failure of the rebellion Dwnn was pardoned in May 1413 against payment of a fine of £ 200 and received his possessions back. He could not afford the high sum, but he managed to regain his leading position in Kidwelly. He imposed penalties on 200 Welsh who had not supported him during the rebellion, and tried in vain October 1413, John Scudamore in an ambush in Carmarthen to murder.
«b»Family and children «/b»
His son Maredudd (1370) died probably already after 1401, but his daughter Mabli, who married Gruffudd ap Nicolas, and his sons Gruffudd and Owain were among the leading Welsh nobles in Southwest Wales.
