  BIOGRAPHY: Lord of Socknesh or Sworkerness a manor situated in theextreme north of the parish of Brithling, Sussex, close to Battle Abbeyabout thirty kilometres from the sea. A manor still exists,rebuilt in theElizabethan era, on the site of the original house. During the 12thcentury it was an important centre for the manufacturing of armour andcontained many forges. Could this be the source of the "Frette" in theSt. Leger Coat of Arms? It was an important source of income, other landsnear Rye and Winchelsea.
