William, Sir Knight, was Lord of St. Leger in Eu, Normandy and Lord Fairlight and Wertlignes in Sussex and Ulcombe in Kent, England. He Succeeded his father in the lands gained at the Norman Conquest, but he also possessed, whilst his father was alive, considerable land in Sussex which was probably part of his wife's dowry. Both William and his wife Caaecilia de Lamport de Romenel (a descendant of Robert de Romenel who was present at the Battle of Hastings) donated the tythes of their manor at Promhill-Sussex to Battle Abbey between 1090 and 1100. Their listed children were Sir Geoffrey, Clarambaud, Ralph, William, and Cecilia.
