Seventh Lord of Dutton: Hugh VIII De Dutton 9th Lord of Dutton was born 8 December 1276 in Dutton, Cheshire, England and died in 1326 in England. He married Joan De Holland. Joan De Holland was born in 1302 in Holland, Lancashire, England. She died in 1347 in England.
He had the following children:
First marriage:-
Katherine de Dutton (c1300-), born 1300 England, married Robert de Pulford (c1300-)
Second marriage:-
Thomas de Dutton (1315-1381), born 1315 England, death 1381 England,
married (1) Ellen de Thornton (c1316-1355)
married (2) Philippa Unknown (-1389)
William de Dutton
Geoffrey de Dutton
Robert de Dutton
He sued the Prior of Norton for not finding a Chaplain and Lamp at Poosey Chappel, according to the original Grant, which he there produced; And John Olton, then Prior, confessed the same, and was ordered to find them.
Poosey Chapel was built by a previous Hugh Dutton in 1236. It was situated between the River Weaver and Dutton Park at a place called Poosey or Poos-eye which literally means "a poole by the river".
The Prior of Norton promised Hugh Dutton that he would provide a chaplain to officiate and keep a lamp burning at divine worship. In 1315 Hugh de Dutton (IX) sued the Prior of Norton for failing to provide a priest.
We do not know exactly where Poosey Chapel stood. In 1660 it had fallen into decay, and all trace of the building has subsequently disappeared.
Hugh de Dutton was born on the feast of the Conception of the Blessed Virgin, 8 December, in 1276.[1]
Hugh was the son and heir of Sir Hugh de Dutton, knight.[2] Hugh's father died when Hugh was about 16 years old.[2]
Hugh was the brother of Geoffrey of Dutton.[3]
During Hugh's minority, an Inquisition taken at Nantwich, in response to a writ of certiorari, found that he was 20 on 8 December, 1296, and that his towns of Nesse and Preston, because of his minority and because they were held of the king in chief, were in the ward-ship of king Edward I.[1]
Hugh of Dutton, then steward of Halton, his brother Geoffrey of Dutton, Thomas of Orreby, Gilbert of Lymme, Richard of Eston, William of Daresburi, Richard Starky, Walter Moton, Alan the Clerk, Adam the Clerk, Aitrop of Milinton, Adam of Stocton, Adam of More, and all the Hundred of Halton, witnessed a grant by Wiliam of Walton of his part of the mill between Acton and Walton to the abbot and monks of the Blessed Place of Stanlaw,[3] [4]
