----------------------------------
Payne Turberville inherited the manor and castle of Coity from his father Sir Richard Turberville. The Coity inheritance passed, after the death of Payne, to his eldest son Gilbert and, on the death of Gilbert's son without issue, to Richard Turberville, the second son of Payne. Richard Turberville also died without issue having settled the Coity inheritance on the male heirs of his sisters Katherine (wife of Roger Berkerolles), Margaret (wife of Richard Stackpole), Agnes (wife of John de la Bere), Sarah (wife of William Gamage) and another sister, name unknown (the wife of John Flemming). On Richard's death the inheritance was claimed by Laurence Berkerolles the son of Roger and Katherine. On the death of Laurence Berkerolles, without issue, in 1414 there was much confusion over who should inherit, with descendents of Berkerolles, Stackpole, de la Bere and Gamage all in contention. Eventually the manor and castle were settled on a descendent of Sarah Gamage.

Payne Tuberville died about 1318 in his prime, leaving Gwenllian Talbot as his executrix. Their eldest son Sir Gilbert died by 1344, leaving one son and heir, also named Gilbert, who died in 1349 without issue, his heir being his uncle Richard, aged 40. It seems the elder Gilbert was the first child, Richard the youngest. Richard succeeded to Coyty, and enfeoffed the manor and lands, receiving them back to himself and his wife Hawise, with remainder to the various male heirs of his sisters.

He was 'custos' of Glamorgan in 1315, and changed many of the officials, among them Llywelyn Bren (Llywelyn ap Gruffydd) of Eglwysilan. === Sir Payne de Turbeville, who was 7th in ===
Sir Payne de Turbeville, who was 7th in line from Sir Pain de Turbeville, who was Lord of Coyty in Glamorganshire, Wales. This ancient and powerful and knightly family, the most powerful of all the Normans who settled in that county, and were previous to their advent in that county Lords of Crickhowell in County Brecknock, which they obtained at the Conquest of Brecknock from Sir Bernard Newmarch, the Norman knight, who in the reign of William Rufus, and won that lordship from the then possessor Bleddyn, a Welsh Prince. Sir Pain de Turberville I was one of the twelve knights who accompanied Sir Robert Fitzhamon to the aid of Jestin ap Gwrgant, King of Glamorgan, against Rhese, Prince of South Wales, about the year 1090. Subsequently on the death of Rhese, Fitzhamon, turning his forces against Jestin, and conquering his whole dominion, he divided it amongst his eleven knights, and their followers. To the share of Sir Pain Turberville was allotted the Castle and lordship of Coyty, and he confirmed his right by marrying the heiress of the last possessor, a descendant of Jestin. Sir Pain is said to deny homage to Sir Robert FitzHamon, chief over the other knights, because he had married Sara, daughter to Morgan Meyrich, which was the rightful heir. Gwenllian Talbot and Sir Payne de Turberville had Gilbert, his successor, Richard, Catherine, Margaret, Agnes and Sarah.
