He was in office of the marshal of charge France in the month of June 1204 , When King Philippe Auguste presented him the castle of Argentan in Normandy to congratulate him on his military successes. In the act establishing this endowment, Clement qualified Marshal. It was while he had this charge, that Philip Augustus did, with the Bishop of Macon, the treaty which clearly proves that the Seneschal, the Constable and Marshal were therefore mainly military officers.
Henri Clement marched to the aid of William des Roches, Seneschal of Angers, which had begun to conquer the king of Aquitaine. He defeated the lords of Mauleon and Mortemer, ravaging towns and villages of Poitou subjected to Philippe Auguste. Their defeat and decision rebel gentlemen, that Clement led the king to the city of Poitiers, which the prince then formed the siege forced the last place to go. Loudun, Niort, Fontenay, Miss, and all other places of Poitou, as well as those of the Saintonge, imitated the submission of Poitiers.
In 1214, he distinguished himself at the Battle of Bouvines. The same year, he fought the English in Poitou with Prince Louis of France. It was during this war that he died of illness at Angers. He was buried at the abbey Turpenay.
