=== Life Sketch ===
Lawrence de Lodelowe was born circa 1275 in Shropshire, England. He was the eldest son of William Ludlowe and Matilda de Hodnet.
Laurence de Lodelowe was married to a woman named Hawise.[1]
William de Ludlowe, Lawrence's father, died in 1316. At this time, his mother was remarried to a man named de Wyn. Matilda de Hodnet de Ludlowe de Wyn died circa 1347. Matilda left just one heir, a son named Lawrence de Ludlowe.
Unfortunately, Laurence de Ludlowe got into some trouble for a violent physical assault upon a man named John Wyard. He became an outlaw to King Edward III, who seized all of his property for the crown in 1348.
Lawrence de Ludlowe died an outlaw in 1353.
As some small measure of consolation, John de Ludlowe, Matilda's grandson, was granted the position of High Sheriff of Shropshire in 1360.

Note: - Stokesay Castle is one of the finest fortified manor houses in England. Its military appearance is superficial – it couldn’t have withstood a serious siege.
- Almost everything visible at Stokesay today was built in the 1280s and 1290s by Laurence of Ludlow, a local merchant who had made his fortune in the wool trade.
- The only substantial later addition is the picturesque gatehouse, built in 1640–41.
- Among Stokesay’s many treasures are its medieval staircase and tiled floor, and a richly carved 17th-century chamber.
- In the 19th century the castle was sympathetically repaired and preserved thanks to the enlightened efforts of early conservationists.
