he was heiress in 1258/67 to Mabel de Cantelowe. The exact relationship of the two is unknown. Some people think Hawise was Mabel's granddaughter, but Douglas Richardson in 2005 stated that "...it is equally possible that Mabel was Hawise's paternal aunt or cousin, or a younger 2nd wife of her grandfather. Also, I hasten to point out that Cantelowe was not necessarily Mabel's maiden name. Rather, unless she was from a particularly lofty pedigree, the surname Cantelowe is probably Mabel's married name at the time of her death, not her maiden name."
Buried at Ewenny Priory, Glamorgan, where the greater part of her tombstone was found during some alterations to the church in 1895. The head is, unfortunately, missing, but the rest of the figure is in good preservation. The inscription runs as follows:
'(De la nob)le Dame : Hawise : de : Londres : pensez
(Et chanter) pur : la : so(n) : alme : pult (?) : pat : noster.'t

=== Hawyse was heiress of Kidwelly Castle in ===
Hawyse was heiress of Kidwelly Castle in Carmarthenshire, one of a line of castles guarding the coastal road, built during the Norman advance in King Henry I's reign. She "married into the powerful Marcher Lord family of de Braose; but her husband died in a campaign in 1233, by which time Kidwelly Castle was once again firmly in Welsh hands, and had been for two years, Llywelyn having decided that appeasement would not work with Henry III. The Welsh hung on to Kidwelly for a long time, and only after Hawise married Patrick de Chaworth in 1244 did she find someone to get her castle back for her. De Chaworth even managed to hold Kidwelly Castle during the Welsh rising of 1257, though the town of Kidwelly was destroyed. But the next year Patrick was killed in battle, and his estate went to his son Payn, who began considerable rebuilding after his majority in about 1270." - "Castles of Wales," by Alan Reid, pp.94-5. The name Kidwelly or Cyd-weli signifies its position at the junction of two streams. "Built in 1084 by William de Londres, a follower of Robert Fitz Hamon who conquered Glamorgan, the castle was destroyed about 1230 by Llewellyn the Great, and rebuilt about 40 years later." - Encyclopaedia Britannica ('56 Ed.), 13:373.
