=== Life Sketch ===
Foundation for Medieval Genealogy
Infanta doña SANCHA de Castilla y León ([1100/16 Mar 1104]-after 10 May 1125). The Chronicon Regum Legionensium names "Sancha the wife of count Rodrigo and Elvira who married Duke Roger of Sicily" as the daughters of King Alfonso and his fourth "legitimate wife…Elisabeth"[563]. Both daughters are named in a charter dated 16 Mar 1104[564]. In view of the dates of their marriages, it is unlikely that they were born much before this date.
This suggests that their mother may have been King Alfonso's fifth wife, formerly known by her Muslim name Zaïda, although if their estimated birth dates are correct there would have been an interval of several years between their births and the birth of their older brother Sancho, which seems surprising. "Comite domno Roderico Gonzalvus cum uxore mea Sandecia prolis filia regis Adephonsus" donated the monastery of San Mames to Santa María de Piasca by charter dated "mense Iulii, Era 1100" (misdated)[565].
m (1120 or 1122) as his first wife, RODRIGO González de Lara Señor de Lara y Liébana, son of GONZALO Núñez & his wife Goto --- (-after 1143).
=== No son Rodrigo ===
Though it is commonly found in older history books, Sancha had no son named Rodrigo. This arose due to a historian writing in the late-17th/early 18th-centuries, who concluded that two apparent sisters, with the patronymic Rodríguez, were Lara relatives. Based on their chronology, he concluded that they were likely granddaughters of Rodrigo González de Lara and Sancha Alfonso, and so he created a 'Rodrigo Rodríguez' to fill the gap. There was never any independent evidence that such a person existed - he was created solely as a genealogical placeholder to bridge the sisters to their supposed grandparents.
It has since been discovered that the two sisters were not Lara at all. A monastic account of its benefactor families shows these sisters to have been daughters of Rodrigo Fernández de Toroño, with no Lara relationship. As such, the sole reason for assigning a son Rodrigo to Rodrigo González and Sancha Alfonso disappears completely.
=== Mother ===
There is scholarly disagreement over whether Zaida, mistress of Alfonso VI and mother of his son Sancho, is the same woman as his queen Isabel, mother of Sancha and Elvira. Sancha was unquestionably daughter of Queen Isabella. She was daughter of Zaida if, and only if, Zaida was identical to Queen Isabella, but scholars are divided over whether this was the case.

Page: This record documents the parents of D. Sancha. I understand that it is controversial and / or unclear who her parents are. This is one source that if I am reading the words correctly, documents her parents as Rey D. Affonso VI and Isabel de França, daughter of Rey Luiz VI, o Gordo. Regarding the Muslim Princess Zaida: this would mean that if Zaida did change her name when baptized to Isabel, that she is a different Isabel, and not the mother of D. Sancha. I don't know the credibility of the author. If anyone knows about this, please advise me. I would like to have more sources on this.
