Urraca Almoravit
- Preferred Name: Urraca Almoravit
- Gender: F
- Death: Y
- FSID: GXD5-88L
- Notes:
=== Didn't exist ===
This 'person' is first known from a 14th century family history, three centuries after she supposedly lived. Her supposed husband is only found in contemporary documentation with a different woman as his wife. Urraca was apparently incorporated into the Guevara pedigree to represent the belief at the time the pedigree was written that the family descended from the most important families of the kingdom of Navarre: the Guevara and the Almoravits. Not only is this descent unsupported by contemporary documents, but the belief that the Almoravits were a prominent family at the time they were writing about is also untrue. In the time Urraca would have lived, the family that became the Almoravits were junior nobles who had yet to adopt any surname. Indeed, there is little likelihood Urraca was ever anything but a creation of later genealogists to fit a political narrative of the importance of the Guevara family's early generations in the kingdom of Navarre, rather than her being an authentic human.
In recent years a claim has spread that Urraca was daughter of a Muslim king. Absurd on its face, this wishful thinkng is based on the false assumption about the origin of the surname, which started out as the nickname of a Christian nobleman who earned it fighting against the Almoravids, probably at the siege of Zaragoza, and not because he was related to them.
