Note:
According to Gorges (p.5) Thomas is the first proven ancestor of the house of Gorges in England. The name Gorges derived from the name of one of the most ancient parishes in Lower Normandy, one part of which was the 'fief of Gorges.' When John
I Lackland entered war with French King Philip Augustus, Thomas, for whom John I was his liege lord, sided with John I. With the victory of Philip Augustus, his lands were confiscated, he lost his chief place in the church, lost his honors in
processions, and lost his share of tithes. His castle was demolished in 1212. He left Normandy for England where Henry III made him warden of the royal manor of Powerstock in Dorset. He was made a knight of Henry III and received financial
