  Maria GROAT, the daughter of William P. Groat (143) and Hannah Shufelt, was born April 6, 1811, and christened May 14, 1811 at the ReformedChurch of Claverack. She married Dr. Richard Henry Mesick (born March4, 1806), August 10, 1836. It appears that this was the second wife of Richard Henry as the records of Christ's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ghent list an earlier wedding in which he married Lovina Diederick (seamstress), April 7, 1831. That wedding was held at the home of her father and witnessed by Peter L. Groat (227) and Sarah Elinor Groat(228). Maria died November 24, 1858 (age 47 years, 7 months, 18 days)and her husband died January 31, 1883 (age 76 years, 10 months, 27 days). They are buried in Union Cemetery, Mellenville.
