John GROAT, the son of Henrich Groat (37) and Catharine Voland (Foland?), was born September 5, 1784, and christened October 10, 1784, at the Reformed Church of Claverack. Sponsors at the christening were "John TenBroeck and Maritje Voland." He married Hannah Pultz, January 28,1806. The family bible of his father indicates that he died April 21,1823. He is mentioned as deceased in his fathers will (dated January 30, 1824) along with his widow. Hannah survived him by many years and is listed in the 1875 New York State census, age "81," living with herson Edward. John and Hannah had six children:

Ann Margaret: Born October 11, 1809.
Ellen Jane: Born about January 19, 1811.
Philip: Born August 26, 1812.
William David: Born September 17, 1815.
Edward: Christened January 14, 1819.
