  John (Johannes) W. GROAT, the son of Wilhelmus Groat (38) and Christina Heisser (Hauser), was born April 29, 1781, and christened "Johannes" at the Reformed Church of Claverack, May 13, 1781. Sponsors at the christening were Christine's brother, Petrus Heisser, and Elizabeth Kool. He married Magdelena (Helena) Cooper, the daughter of Martin Cooper and Regina Crum, at Kinderhook, February 16, 1802, and they had twosons. John W. died February 9, 1810, and his wife, Helena, remarried to Joseph Shaver. She died October 26, 1864, at the age of 82, and sheis buried as Magdelena Cooper Groat Shaver in the old Kinderhook cemetery with her son Martin (225).
