  Jeremiah GROAT, the son of Wilhelmus Groat (38) and Christina Heisser(Hauser), born July 30 1786, and christened "Jeremias" at the Reformed Church 0f Claverack, August 20, 1786. Sponsors at the christening were Jacob Sherp and Catharina Heisser (sister of the mother). As "Jeremiah Grod" he married Rebecca (Peggy) Zufeld (Shufelt), August 6, 1810, at the Reformed Church of Claverack).
  
  Rebecca Shufelt (born December 10, 1787), was the daughter of Philip Shufelt (the son of George Adam Shufelt and Catherine Reissdorf, christened at Red Hook Lutheran Church, April 15, 1740) and Sarah Shaver (daughter or Johan Valentine Schaffer and Maria Barbara Meyer). The background of the Shufelt family is discussed in some detail in the section dealing with Willem W. Groat (127) above. Rebecca's sister Sally married Willem W. Groat (127); her brother Peter married Catherine Groat(129); her sister Hannah married William P. Groat (143); and her niece Jane married Jacob P. Groat (145).
  
  Rebecca died at the age of 76 years, 7 months, and 12 days, July 22, 1866. She was buried at Union Cemetery, Mellenville, July 24, 1866. Jeremiah died September 1, 1872, and was buried with his wife at Mellenville. They had three children:
