=== WILLIAM DE ROUMARE, Seigneur of Roumare ===
WILLIAM DE ROUMARE, Seigneur of Roumare (near Rouen), so n of Roger FITZGEROLD (c), by Lucy, "the Countess," was bor n circa 1096. [Complete Peerage VII:667, (transcribed by Da ve Utzinger)] (c) He [Roger FitzGerold] and Lucy his wife gave the churc h of Asgarby to the canons of Lincoln. His obit was kept a t Lincoln on 15 July. He witnessed an undated charter of hi s brother Robert to le Bec, which charter is confirmed by a n undated charter of Robert's nephew William de Roumare, wh o calls Robert his predecessor. Robert had Corfe and othe r estates in 1086 and was living in 1096. Roger and Rober t were sons of Gerold "Miles Christi", who with consent o f Robert his son and heir gave to the nuns of St. Amand, Ro uen, the church of Roumare for the soul of his wife Aubreye , who d. 21 May. Among the witnesses are Radulfus frater G eroudi and Osbertus de Novoforo (Neufmarche), who also atte st another grant by the same Gerold to St. Amand in the pre sence of William, King of the English. Gerold, the Senesch al witnessed charters in 1055, 1063, and 1066, and circia 1 064 Duke William established Gerold "dapifer" as Castella n of Neufmarche. Gerold de Neufmarche is witness to a chart er of William I dated Apr 1067. The appearance of Osbern d e Neufmarche as witness to the two charters of Gerold "Mile s Christi" mentioned above, when taken in conjunction wit h the fact that his descendants were Castellans of Neufmarc he, establishes the identity of the two Gerolds. Note: Apparently Roger was the younger son, while Robert, t he elder, inherited the Normandy estates. I assume that Ro bert may have been son of an earlier Norman wife. William , Roger's son, apparently inherited Roumare from Robert, wh o may not have had issue; yet other descendants inherited N eufmarche? !DEATH:Complete Peerage of England Scotland Ireland Great B ritain and the United Kingdom, by G. Note: ROGER FitzGerold, son of GEROLD & his wife Aubreye --- (-before 1098). Châtelain de Neufmarché. “R filius Geroldi” donated property to St Mary’s, York by charter dated to [1094/98], witnessed by “L. sua uxor et suus frater Wido…”[899].
m (after 1094) as her second husband, LUCY, widow of IVO Taillebois Lord of Kendal, daughter of --- & his wife [--- Malet] (-1138). Ingulph's Chronicle of the Abbey of Croyland records that William I King of England arranged the marriage of "Ivo Taillebois" and "Lucia sister of Edwin and Morcar", her dowry consisting of their land at Hoyland[900], but this parentage appears impossible from a chronological point of view. Peter of Blois's Continuation of the Chronicle of the Abbey of Croyland records the death of Ivo and his burial at the priory of Spalding, that their only daughter "who had been married to a husband of noble rank" had predeceased her father, and the remarriage of his widow "hardly had one month elapsed after his death" with "Roger de Romar the son Gerald de Romar"[901]. A manuscript recording the foundation of Spalding monastery records that “Yvo Talboys” married "Thoroldo…hærede Lucia" who, after the death of Ivo, married (in turn) "Rogerum filium Geroldi" and "comitem Cestriæ Ranulphum"[902]. Ingulph's Chronicle of the Abbey of Croyland records that "his wife the lady Lucia" married "Roger de Romar the son of Gerald de Romar" when "hardly had one month elapsed after the death" of her first husband "Ivo Taillebois"[903]. “R filius Geroldi” donated property to St Mary’s, York by charter dated to [1094/98], witnessed by “L. sua uxor et suus frater Wido…”[904]. She married thirdly (1098) Ranulf "Meschin" Earl of Chester. She is named as wife of Ranulf by Orderic Vitalis, who also names her first husband, but does not give her origin[905]. According to a charter of Henri Duke of Normandy (later Henry II King of England) to her son Ranulf Earl of Chester dated 1153, Ctss Lucy was the niece of Robert Malet of Eye and of Alan of Lincoln, as well as kinswoman of Thorold "the Sheriff"[906].
Roger FitzGerold & his wife had two children: (William de Roumare and Roger).
