  David Groat the son of Hieronimus Groat (21) and Maria Margaretha Hillicas, was born July 31, 1792, and christened September 2, 1792, at Claverack, NY. Sponsors at the christening were ?Frederick Hilligrass, Jr.? and Margareth Steiber. He married Hannah Adaline Marshall, October15, at Clay, Onondaga County, NY. The marriage was performed by Horatio Warner, a Baptist minister. His wife was probably born in 1811 or 1812. They had 6 children. He died in Florence, Erie County, Ohio, September 25, 1854, and his wife lived in North Camden, Lorain County, Ohio. His wife died December 21, 1896. David served in the War of 1812 under Captain Burgess from October 27, 1814. until November 16, 1814. Inan application for a widow's pension, Hannah stated that since his discharge they lived in Clay for 6 years, Butler (Wayne County, N.Y.) for 15 years, Cato (Cayuga County) for 4 years, and Florence (Erie County, Ohio) 1 year 4 months until his death.
