=== "Sarah Prescott was a daughter of Jonas ===
"Sarah Prescott was a daughter of Jonas Prescott. In "Annals of Lancaster" Jonas is recorded as the youngest of the eight children of John Prescott, the founder of Lancaster Town. Jonas married Mary Loker, an heiress of Sudbury, on 14 Dec. 1672. they were married in Lancaster and their first child born there; afterward removed to Groton where Jonas became Captain, Selectmen and Justice. He died in Groton 31 Dec 1723. He had twelve children, the above Sarah being one; her brother Benjamin was the father of Colonel William Prescott of Bunker Hill fame; another noted descendant of Jonas was Wm. H. Prescott, the Historian.
Sarah Precott Longley's ancestry is ancient and contains the names of many of history's great personages. Alfred the Great, Charlemange, Willim I (The Conqueror), and David I, King of Scotland. Her Standish ancertor was a relative of Capt. Miles Standish of "Mayflower" fame. Her grandfather, John Prescott, was the only man among the original proprietors of Lancaster, Massachusetts, those who purchased land from Sholan, Chief of the Nashaways, to settle there permanently, and was called "The Founder of Lancaster."
The Prescott family has been honored by many worthy descendants. Namely-Benjamin Prescott, who carried on Paul Rever's famous ride to warn the citizens of Concord; Col. William Prescott, commander at the Battle of Bunker Hill; the noted historian, William Hickling Prescott, and Charles Warren Fairbanks, Vice-President of the United States.
