  JEREMIAH BEAL, son of the progenitor, was born in England; dwelt on the present South Street in Hingham, and married at Boston, Sarah Ripley, daughter of William, of Hingham, 18 Nov., 1652, and had the following children:--Jeremiah, born 13 May 1655, married Hannah Lane, 22 May, 1677, had many children, and died at Hingham, 21 April 1703, aged nearly 48 years; John, designated as a carpenter, bapt. 8 March, 1656-7, married Hannah, his wife, about 1686, and died 30 Dec., 1735; Sarah, bapt. 3 July, 1659, married John Lane, 21 Jan., 1679-80, and died 13 Dec., 1693, her husband surviving and dying 12 March, 1729-30, aged 83; Lazarus, born 7 Sept., 1661, married Susanna Lewis, 18 Feb., 1689-90, at Barnstable, and died 18 Aug., 1723, his wife surviving and dying 28 Sept., 1748, aged 73; Phebe, born 2 March, 1663-4, died 12 July, 1665; Mary, born 6 May, 1666, married John Orcutt, of Bridgewater, 23 Dec., 1702, and died 22 May, 1719; Elizabeth, born 16 May, 1669, married Ephraim Lane, son of Andrew, 29 Dec., 1708, and died 30 July, 1716, her husband having died 1 Dec., 1715, aged 65.   Lt. Jeremiah had for wife Sarah Ripley, whose father William came to this country at the same time with old Mr. John Beal, in the Diligent in 1638, bringing with him his wife, two sons, John and Abraham, and two daughters, Sarah and her sister, whose name does not appear in the records of Hingham. Mr. Ripley married, for second wife, Elizabeth, the widow of Thomas Thaxter, 29 Sept., 1654, and died 20 July, 1656; and his widow married John Dwight of Dedham, 20 Jan., 1657-8, and died, being drowned in a well, 18 July, 1660.

  Jeremiah Beal, son of John, was born in England, and lived on the present South Street in Hingham. He married Sarah Ripley, daughter of William Ripley, of Hingham, November 18, 1652, and had the following children: Jeremiah, born May 13, 1652; John, March, 1656, designated as a carpenter; Sarah, June, 1659; Lazarus, September 7, 1661; Phebe, March 2, 1663; Mary, May 6, 1666, and Elizabeth, May 16, 1669. Mr. Beal was Lieutenant in the Hingham Train Band; his commission was dated May 20, 1683. He died August 10, 1716, aged eighty-five, and was consequently born in England in 1631. His wife, Sarah, died June 20, 1715.

  === Jeremiah Beal, the seventh child of Joh ===
  Jeremiah Beal, the seventh child of John Beal, was known as "Lieutenant" having been commissioned to the rank in the Hingham Train Band May 20, 1683. He was Constable in 1672, a Selectman in 1671, 1673, and 1684 and a Representative in 1691, 1692, and 1701. He and his family lived on Bachelor (Main) street near the meeting house of the First Parish. He was a blacksmith and a cabinet maker and had a cabinet shop in the nearby town of Cohasset. In 1690 he built a house for his son John on East Street near Hull Street and in later years lived there with his son and family. That house still exists although it has undergone many alterations and additions. And Jeremiah still lives there too....as a ghost. The present owners (1980) of the house from time to time have felt his presence.

I shall feel thankful if any of your contributors can and will give me the pedigree of Rebeckah Paine, born in Braintree, Mass., about 1740 or 1741; died there about 1782; or the names of any of her descendants. She married, in Braintree, intentions Jan. 23, 1758-59, John (5) Hunt (John 4, Colonel Ephraim 3, Ephraim 2, Enoch 1, the immigrant). He was born in Braintree, July 9, 1737, died in Belchertown, 1813. Mr. Hunt married, second, intentions March 8, 1783, Mary Thayer, probably of Braintree, and soon after removed with his family to Belchertown, where he established a home. There were nine children born of the first marriage and one by the second, to wit: Ruth, Seth, John, Abner, Lydia, Rebecca, Rachel, Sarah, Jabez and Mary. Seth married Sarah Lamb of Randolph; Abner married Dimmis Root of Belchertown; Lydia married John Belding; Rebecca married, first Isaac Foster of Greenfield, and second Abijah Scovil of Ontario County, N. Soon after he, with his two sons, Isaac and Ezekiel, removed to Deerfield, Mass., and later was at Bernardstown. I will be very glad to get the pedigree of Peter Thorp and of Abigail White, who came to Lebanon from Dedham, Mass.
