DESCENDANTS
Father of Elizabeth (Griswold) Palmer, Mary Griswold, Hannah (Grizzell) Kent and Hannah Griswold
Died 2 Oct 1652 in Charlestown, Massachusetts Bay
Disputed Origins
That he was the son of George Griswold and Dousebel Leigh (and brother to Edward, Mathew, Michael and Thomas) is speculative, but explored in One Bassett Family in America (p. 359-363). (Immigrant Edward Griswold of Connecticut did name a son Francis.)
He might have been born 10 Jan 1605, son of Clement Griswold of Henley-of-Arden:[1]
Will of Clement Griswold of Henley-of-Arden, filed at Worcester (England): named eldest son Frank, and second son Georg
Henley parish records show Francis son of Clement baptized 10 Jan 1605
Biography
His name was variously written: Greshold, Greshould, Grisell, Grissell, Grissoll, and Grisold.
His origins are not known, but it is thought that he had some connection with Edward, Matthew or Michael of Connecticut, but we have no proof of this.[2]
Francis Griswold, of Cambridge, 1639, perhaps brother of the preceding, perhaps cousin by wife Mary, had Mary, born 1639; Hannah, 1643, died at 2 mos., and Hannah, again, 1645; was freeman 1645, lived at Charlestown 1649, and died soon.[3]
He may have been "Francis Grissell, to whom reference is made in the calendar of state papers (Minutes of a Committee for Providence Plantation), as having applied in England from July 1635 to Feb. 1636, for the cost of transportation.
Francis Griswold settled at Cambridge, Massachusetts, where he had a land grant 1636. He was also a proprietor at Charlestown. He was made freeman in 1645. He served as town drummer.
His wife was Mary, whom he married in England, and whose maiden name is unknown.
He had a land grant of 2 acres for his work and service among the soldiers.
He died in Cambridge, there recorded, Oct. 2, 1652, leaving two daughters.[4]
That said, there is no death record in 1652 for Francis Griswold in either Cambridge or Charlestown vital records. (If someone finds it, please cite specific publication, volume and page number.)
His widow Mary married second William Bullard.

Note: IT MUST BE NOTED THIS IS A SECONDARY SOURCE. This is a "history" researched and printed without listing the sources from which they compiled this information. Some erroneous information is perpetuated from this as a "source." This page claims George Griswold had five sons: Thomas, who remained in Kenilworth, England, erroneously claims Michael who settled in Wethersfield, Conn. was his son, Edward, the colonist, Francis who settled in Cambridge, Massachusetts which is also incorrectly stated as fact, and Matthew who settled in Windsor and Lyme, Conn.
The only proof that has been found is in a legal affidavit stating George was the father of Thomas, Edward, and Matthew.
The father of Michael has been circumstantially determined to be Edward and Margaret (Blencoe) Greswold who died in England in 1633.
The origins of Francis of Cambridge, Mass. are unknown.
It further claims Francis married Mary Tracy, but this information is suspect for various reasons. This is hinted at, for one source, in U.S., New England Marriages which questions who exactly the wife of Francis was.
Page: It is important to realize this is a "history," not a primary source. It does not name the sources. "Sources" like this perpetuate misinformation and is possibly the reason contributors keep adding these children to this family.

He came to New England and settled at Cambridge, MA where he had a land grant in 1636. He was also proprietor at Charlestown. He married his wife, Mary, in England, whose family are unknown. He died in Cambridge 2 Oct 1652 leaving two daughters.
