Disputed Origins
She has been claimed by internet trees including Royal Titled Ancestors to be born 19 JUN 1580 Bures St Mary, daughter of Jacob French and Susan Warren. A 1989 article, which published research of English parish records, found no maiden name for her.[1]
The Elizabeth French bpt 19 June 1580, was in Knoddishall, Suffolk, England, (claimed to be Bures St. Mary). She was d/o Robert and Alice[2]
A 1989 article by Douglas Richardson, examined the registers in Bury St. Edmunds, without finding a surname for Elizabeth. A likely guess is that she and Bridget, wife of John Parmenter, may be sisters. There were two sets of sisters "Elizabeth and Bridget" bpt at Bury St. Edmunds in the correct time frame: Daughters of William Perry, Elizabeth bpt 1586/7 and Bridget bpt 1593 and daughters of John Simpson Bridget bpt 1585/6 and Elizabeth bpt 1588.[1]
