=== Life Sketch ===
Biography
Born 1555 Assington, Suffolk, England, the daughter of William Warren, b. 1502 in Bures St. Mary, Assington, Suffolk, England. She died 01 AUG 1613 St Mary, Essex, , England. Married Jacob French.
Susann Warren ("Susan Waren") married in Bures St. Mary, Suffolk. 27 September 1578, Jacob French ("Jacob Frenche"). The parish lies partly in Suffolk, and partly in Essex, with the Stour River running between the two counties.
Jacob and Susan moved to Assington ca. 1585/86 or transferred church affiliation to that place. Assington is located next to Bures in the north. Thomas Sr. "occupied" a farm at Assington called Garlands, owned by John Gurdon.
Childrenof Jacob and Susann (Warren) French:
1.) William French, chr. 25 Jul 1580 in Bures St. Mary, Suffolk. "William ffrench was baptised xxvth July 1580." He may have been named after his grandfather on his mother's side, William Warren.
2.) Jacob French, bp. 12 Aug 1582 at Bures St. Mary, Suffolk. "Jacob ffrench was baptised xij August 1582.". No further record.
3.) Thomas French, bp. 11 Oct 1584 at Bures St. Mary, Suffolk. "Thomas ffrench son of Jacob was baptised same day ..." He moved to Assington in about 1585 or 1586, and there married Susan Riddlesdae, 5 September 1608. Immigrated to New England
4.) Elizabeth French, bp. 27 Feb 1586/7 in Assington.
5.) Susan French, bp. 1589-98, buried Assington 1 Aug 1613, as "dau. of Jacob."
6.) John French, bp. 27 Mar 1596, Assington (parents not named). John married (1) Sarah, about 1620; their daughter Sarah was buried at Assington 22 Jan 1620/21.
7.) Robert French, bp. 25 Jun 1600, Assington--both parents, Jacob and Susan, are mentioned in his baptismal record.
Research Note
In the Spring 2021 issue of NEHG Register, authors Melinde Lutz Byrne and John Edward Howard propose that Henry Kingsbury (died after 1636) married (1) in Stoke by Nayland, Suffolk to Jane Warren ("Jane Waryn") 5 December 1613. (He married (2) Assington, Suffolk, 1621, the widow Margaret Alabaster; they immigrated New England.)
Jane Warren's ancestry is unknown. Byrne and Howard write that she was, "perhaps a relative of Thomas French Sr.'s mother, Susan Warren," noting that Threlfall was unable to reliably sort the Warrens in surviving records."
The authors further propose Henry and Jane Kingsbury's son, Henry (b. 1615), married Susan French, bp. 1616, the daughter of Thomas French and Susan Riddesdale. This Susan would thus be the granddaughter of Susan (Warren) French.

“Because Jacob and Susann were married in Bures St. Mary on 27 Sep 1578, it would seem logical that William, who was christened on 25 Jul 1580 also in Bures St. Mary, would be their first child. For Jacob’s other children, please see FFA Chart #E1.
“3.1* William French, chr. 25 Jul 1580 in Bures St. Mary, Suffolk, according to the Bures St. Mary Vital Records starting in 1538, FL540/4/1. He was named after his grandfather on his mother’s side, William Warren… While in Halstead, he was known as William French of The Leete to distinguish himself from William French ofGreenstreet.
“William m3. Elizabeth Symmes, ca. 1623. She was b. 30 Nov 1594, the dau. of Randall Symmes and Ann Burton of St. Lawrence Pountney, London. Elizabeth Symmes was therefore 14 years younger than William. In this large family, the name “Francis” appears often; therefore, they named their son Francis. At the time of his birth, probably on 5 Apr 1625, Elizabeth was 31 and William was 45 years old. Elizabeth died in childbirth with Francis on 5 Apr 1625. Francis was taken care of initially by one of the Symmes women who acted as a wet nurse at that time. By 10 years old in 1635, Francis joined his older brother, William, and immigrated to New England. At that time, in 1635, his older brother William was 30, as shown on the ship Defence record. So far no baptism record of Francis exists.
“Elizabeth died as the widowe from The Leete and was buried 5 Apr 1625, D/P 96/1/1, Image 118…
“Children of William of The Leete and Elizabeth French, 3.1
“4.6 Francis French, chr. 5 Apr 1625 in Halstead, born 17 years after William’s last child. He immigrated with his older brother, William, on the ship Defence in 1635 to New England when he was 10 years old. He m. Lydia Bunnell on 10 Apr 1661 in New Haven, New Haven Co., CT, and he d. 14 Feb 1691 in Derby, New Haven Co., CT...This line continues with FFA Chart #8. Francis had 8 children: Lydia, named after his wife; Elizabeth, named after his mother; Anna; Mary; Lydia after the first daughter died; Samuel; Susanna; and Francis… All of William’s children were from his first wife, Elizabeth, except the last child, who was from his third wife.
“William French of The Leete and Elizabeth French had son Francis French in 1625.”
