Biography
Thomas Gentleman was the son of William Gentleman and his wife Margaret Balden.[1] He was born after 1544 as he was under age 18 in the will of his father; the will implies he had three older siblings also all born after 1544 making it likely he was born between 1550 and 1555.
He married Christian cock, daughter of John Cock, around 1580. They had six known children.
Following the death of Thomas Gentleman, Christian remarried to Thomas Harrison in Somerleyton, Suffolk, England. They had at least two children, Ellen and Mary. Christian died shortly before 3 November 1612 when the administration of her estate was granted to her son-in-law and daughter, Robert and Elizabeth Hatchet.
On 22 May 1614, the children of Thomas Gentleman and Christian Cock were all named in the will of John Cock of Southwold. He was either father of Christian Cock, or perhaps the "partner" of Thomas Gentleman named in Thomas' will. The bequests were to Margaret Eybrook wife of Richard Eybrook, Agnes Moore wife of Thomas Moore, Elizabeth Hatchet wife of Robert Hatchett, Joan Herrington wife of Robert Herrington, Susan Jentleman, and Ellen Harrison daughter of Thomas Harrison.
