Thomas Eames was born in Fordingham, Dorsetshire, England. Thomas was buried 25 June 1618 in Fordingham, Dorsetshire, England. He probably married at St George, Dorsetshire, England to Millicent BREWSTER. She was born about 1552 in Dorset, England. Millicent died May 1614 in Fordingham, Dorset, England at 61 years of age. Thomas is the only one of the Eames family mentioned in early rec of Fordington that have been examined. The Bishops Transcript of the Parish tantalizes the researcher with the note that in 1588 "Jone Emes widow an old woman was buried ye 17th day of June." It is possible that other branches of the family were in the town of Dorchester, which is nearly surrounded by the parish of Fordington, or that some Eames' marriages took place there, but the early registers of Dorchester have not been preserved. The occupation of Thomas hasn't been discovered, nor his location within the large area of the parish. Christening records in the Bishops Transcript all identify sons and daughters of Thomas Eames; no mention of a wife named Millicent was observed."

He liked it so well that he wrote to his brothers, and they all came. There is nothing to verify the accuracy of these stories. !REFERENCES: Ames is the Name, by Richard D. Ames, 1959, Rev. 1961.

=== THE EAMES FAMILY I have found it to be g ===
THE EAMES FAMILY I have found it to be generally true, that the person who makes fun of the Family Historian, knows little or nothing about his family. People are not interested in things they know nothing about. History, whether it be family history, or Church history, is important and a knowledge of all history must be had to appreciate the present, and to help plan the future. History is a tool which we must have to do our work as good citizens and human beings. Several theories have been propounded as to the origin of the surname EAMES. According to one authority, it is derived either from the "son of Emma." from the nickname Em or Emm; or from residence "at the elms," which by some provincialism became Ealmes; gradually the form Eames, a name familiar in London at an early date, came into use. Another spelling authority asserts that it is probably equivalent to Ames, a corrupt spelling, though still retaining the sound, of Eames, town in the department of Orne, in Normandy. Still another derives it from the Old English Eam, meaning uncle. Which of these derivations is the one most readily accepted is not known, and is still a matter of much conjecture. The foremost authority on British surnames, Henry Harrison, believes that the Ames family came to America from Amian's France, and took the name of their native city for an English surname d'Amiens and later shortened to Amyas and later to Ames. The early English form of the name was unquestionably Amyas, clipped into pronouncing it first Amis and then into Ames. It is written Amyas in the text of a number of old wills and deeds, and though they may be signed either Amyas, or Amyce, Amys, Amis, Aimes or Ames. Respect for spelling is however a quite modern annoyance and our forefathers were entirely careless about how they spelled their surnames provided they indicated the sound. In America, Ames became the established spelling only during the second generation. The first recorded reference to the name oc curs in England in 1200. A Richard Ames or Amyas was enrolled as a member of Parliament held at Worcester by King John, a forerunner of the Assembly which 15 years later forced the Magna Carta. The second is a list of the heirs of a certain John Amyas who dwelt at Yorkshire in the realm of King Edward the First (1272-1307. His decendants were granted a coat of Arms and he may have been the ancestor of the various Amyas and Ames we find listed as holding land in Norfolk, Suffolk, Kent, Lincolnshire, Shropshire and Somerset. When written land records became more common. There is also an Amyas menioned on the Battle Abbey scroll as a soldier with William the Conqueror in 1066. Our earliest known ancestor with the name of EAMES was one, Thomas Eames who was born about 1550 at Fordington, St George, Dorset, England. He was buried 25 June 1618 at the above mentoned town. He married Millicent.... She died and was buried 23 May 1614 at the same place. They had issue.
