=== Life Sketch ===
Little in known about Thomas Andrews, father of Joseph Andrews who settled in Hingham. There are some theories that are easily disproved, such as the false assertion in an early history that he had been the Lord Mayor of London (that person stayed in England). There are others by the name of Andrews who were involved in the Massachusetts Bay Colony and still others named Andrews who were early settlers in the Colony, but no evidence that they were related.
The “History of the town of Hingham, Massachusetts, Volume 2” states that, "Thomas and his son, Joseph, came from Devon, England and settled in Hingham prior to the arrival of Rev. Peter Hobart and his company in 1635." It is true that other early settlers in the Hingham area were from the "West Counties," of which Devon was a part. Some of these were in Bare Cove before the Hobarts of Hingham, England arrived to found what became Hingham, Massachusetts.
Of the unproven theory that Thomas Andrews' wife was Mary Simon, one researcher posted, "There is a marriage record for Thomas Androwe and Mary Simon on 12 Feb 1593 in Stokeinteignhead, Devon, England at Family Search. There are then 12 birth records for children of Thomas Andrews (and variant spellings) in Stokeinteignhead in the years 1595-1622, but none of them are named Joseph. There is a son, Gregorie, born 06 Oct 1597, the year Joseph is alleged to have been born."
We do know that he drew a house lot next to his son Joseph's. There is no evidence that he built a home of his own, so it can be assumed he lived with Joseph's family in the garrison home. Following Thomas's death (which was noted in Hobart's journal), Joseph controlled all lands which had been granted by Hingham to his father.

THOMAS, and his s. Joseph2, came from Devonshire, Eng., and settled in our Hing. prior to the arrival of Rev. Peter Hobart and his company in 1635. At the first drawing of house-lots, Sept. 18, 1635, he had five acres (including back land) granted to him on Town (North) St. His lot was the one upon which now stands the dwelling owned by heirs of the late Perez Lincoln. Whether he was related to any of the persons bearing this surname among the early settlers of Taunton, Ipswich, Cambridge, Dorchester, and other places in Eastern Massachusetts is uncertain. He was aged, and prob. old enough to have been the fa. of the Thomas who settled at Dorchester in 1634, and who had a s. Thomas bt. there June 23,1639 ; but there is no rec. showing such a connection. Rev. Peter Hobart of Hing. wrote in his diary under date of Aug. 21, 1643, "Old Thomas Andrews dyed." From this expression I am led to infer that there were other persons bearing the same name who were kn. to Mr. Hobart; although in Hing. there was but one of the name, and he a lad of but ten or eleven yrs. of age.
