=== Life Sketch ===
DO NOT MERGE WITH HIS SON. Burke titles him "Esquire" like his father. - not Lord or Sir
William Godolphin was the heir and probably the eldest son of John Godolphin Esq and his wife Margaret Trenouth. He was born about 1480 and about 1509 he married Margaret Glynn. [1]
There were at least four children: [1]
Sir William - b. abt 1510, m. abt 1536 Blanch Langdon, d. 1575 - Knight
Thomas - b. abt 1512, m. (1) abt 1533 Katherine Bonythan
Elizabeth - b. abt 1517, m. John Langdon of Bicton
Honor - abt 1519, m. William Meliton of Pengarsick
Some sources also refer to another, late, son William Godolphin, of Windsor, but his parentage seems uncertain.[2]
William Godolphin was comptroller of the coinage of tin. In 1533, and perhaps 1538, he was appointed Sheriff of Cornwall. The first appointment was apparently for "William Goldaghan, knt". At that time, his son William would probably not have been of age, which suggests that the elder William was the appointee and had been knighted.[3] [4] [5]
This William Godolphin, in his obscurity, has often been confused with his better-known son Sir William Godolphin. Although most sources also call the elder "Sir William", this seems to be one of the issues of potential confusion between the two men; Burke titles him "Esquire" like his father.[6]
He died in 1549.[7]

Life Sketch from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Godolphin_(Warden_of_the_Stannaries)
He was the son of Esp. John Godolphin, who was High Sheriff of Cornwall in 1505, and his wife Margaret, daughter of John Trenouth.[1]
He sat as Member for Cornwall during the reign of Henry VIII and possibly also of Edward VI, and also served as High Sheriff of Cornwall and Warden of the Stannaries. He seems to have been confused with his eldest son, also Sir William (1515–1570), not least in Burke's Extinct Peerage which conflates the two, so that is not clear which offices were held by the elder and which by the younger. Esq. William lived to an advanced age, dying at around the same time as his son, which may have been the original cause of the confusion.

Note: I need to look into the fact that there are two FGS's for Sir William Godolphin's born to John and Margaret Trenouth, both married to a Margaret Glynn. One born 1486 (which seems consistent, and is what is written on the FGS for the parents) and one born 1520. Because I cannot establish a link between those two, I have eliminated from the FP the child born in 1486. I did, however, form a separate FGS for him, including sources so that someday the problem will be resolved. It is also for this reason that I have not included the seal to parents date on the parent's FGS that read 30 Apr 1970- LANGE.
