=== Life Sketch ===
Marion, the daughter of Archibald Boyd of Nariston and afterwards of Bonshaw (died before 4 May 1507) and Christian Mure (died after 28 January 1523), was also known as Margaret or Margot.
According to Scots Peerage (v 146) 'Margaret became, when very young, the mistress of King James IV., by whom she was mother of Alexander Stewart, Archbishop of St. Andrews and Chamberlain of Scotland (born c. 1499), and of Catherine, wife of James (Douglas), third Earl of Morton. She afterwards married John Mure of Rowallan, of whose wardship and marriage she had a grant, 1494-95, and died a widow shortly before 31 August 1559, leaving issue. Her influence with the King assisted the Boyds in recovering their position.'
According to Scots Peerage (i 22)
'King James IV. had several illegitimate children.
1. Alexander Stewart (son of Margaret Boyd, a daughter of Boyd of Bonshaw). He was born about 1493 ; was created Archbishop of St. Andrews between July and September 1504-5. In 1507 he went abroad and studied under Erasmus. Returning in 1510, he was appointed Chancellor of Scotland in June 1510, and fell by his father's side at Flodden in 1513.
2. Catherine Stewart, a daughter of Margaret Boyd, was married to James Douglas, third Earl of Morton.'

Margaret Boyd was one of four mistresses of James IV. She is the mother of 3 of his illegitimate children, Catherine, Alexander, and James.
This lady was the means of putting an end to the feud of the Rowallan family with the Crawfurds. In her youth she had been mistress to James IV., by whom, with a son, Alexander, bishop of St. Andrews, she had a daughter, Catherine Stewart, married to the third earl of Morton. She afterwards "procured to herself the ward of the laird of Rowallan, John Muir, and married him." They had sasine of the lands of Warnockland, the gift of James IV., in January 1498. This John Mure of Rowallan was slain at Flodden in September 1513. He had four sons and four daughters. Mungo, his eldest son, succeeded him."
