  Foremark manor, called in the Survey of Domesday and other ancient records Fornewerche or Fornewerke, was purchased of the Verdons before the year 1387, by Sir Robert Francis. The heiress of Francis married Thomas Burdett, of Bramcote, in Warwickshire; in consequence of this marriage, Foremark has been ever since the chief country seat of the Burdett family.
