He was bound for service in Wales with the Earl of Hereford in February 1315/16, and was summoned that same months as well as in later years for service against the Scots. He is recorded as a participant in the Battle of Boroughbridge on March 16, 1321/22 and was summoned as a Knight of Beds to attend the Great Council at Westminster in May of 1324. A knight, he was summoned to Parliament as a baron February 25, 1341/42; Lord of Pattishall and Bletsoe, Bedfordshire.
