=== Life Sketch ===
1 - Eleanor is sometimes identified as a Bruce because she was a Countess of Carrick. That probably arose because she continued to be know as Countess of Carrick after her first marriage which was to Alexander Bruce, Earl of Carrick.
2 - Eleanora, daughter of Archibald Douglas of that Ilk, by his wife Dornagilla, daughter of John Comyn of Badenoch ; her brother was William, first Earl of Douglas and Mar. Her first husband was Alexander Bruce, eighth Earl of Carrick, second son of Edward Bruce, King of Ireland and nephew of King Robert I. The earl fell at the battle of Halidon Hill in 1333.
She married, secondly, Sir James Sandilands of Calder, ancestor of the Barons of Torphichen. Her third husband was William Towers, who received a charter of the lands of Dalry, in the county of Edinburgh. Sir Duncan Wallace was her fourth husband; she survived him, and married as her fifth consort Sir Patrick Hepburn of Hailes.

Life Sketch
Eleanor married five times in her lifetime:
(1) first, probably when very young, to Alexander Bruce, Earl of Carrick, son of Edward Bruce, brother of King Robert. He was killed at Halidon Hill.
(2) She married, secondly, about 1340, Sir James Sandilands of Sandilands, with whom she had two sons. Sir James died before 1358, and there is reason to believe his widow
(3) married, thirdly, before 1364, Sir William Towers of Dalry.
(4) Before 1368, she married, fourthly, Sir Duncan Wallace of Sundrum, and
(5) in 1376 she had a dispensation to marry her fifth husband, Sir Patrick Hepburn of Hailes, ancestor of the Earls of Bothwell
