Lord of Fethersdon, Pluckley, Stanford and Elnotington. 2nd son. 1355 was Lieutenant of Kent. 1368 made several arrangements with his farmers 1376. Member of Parliament for Kent.
1377/1378, summoned to serve in Guyenne against the French. During his absence his manor of Boketon in Kent was attacked, even though it was under the protection of the King, and eight bulls were stolen and his bailiff John Chelyngton was attacked. A John Cobham was imprisoned on 14 Feb 1378. 1385 summoned with Ralph and Thomas to round up all soldiers for the French war.

Note: History A member of Parliament for Kent. He made recorded deed agreements with his former tenants in 1366. In 1378 he was summoned to serve in the military campaign against the French; and during his absence, his Manor of Boketon, Kent was ransacked by Hohn Cobham (imprisoned feb 1378), and eitht bulls were stolen, and his bailiff, John Cherlynston, was attacked. In 1385 he was again summoned for military service with sons Ralph and Thomas. In 1387 he was sheriff of Kent. About 1373 he appears to have married Joan, said to be Joan Chereleton (b. 1358, d. 17 Sep 1425, sister and heraldic heiress of her only brother, Edward, fifth Lord Chereleton (fourth Lord Charlton) who d.s.p.m. The sixty quarterings of the Dering family of Surrenden recorded at the College of Arms in 1619 quarter teh Charlton arms.
