John Butetourte was born in 1315 as he was 26 on the Christmas before 10 May, 16 Edward III [1342].
John was the son of Joan who was married to Thomas Botetourte.
When John's maternal uncle, John de Someri died, his mother, Joan, and her sister Margaret were his coheirs, then his uncle's wife Lucy died and an Inquisition taken in Salop on 10 May, 16 Edward III [1342], found that the property that Lucy had held in dower in Foxhale, co Salop, came to Joan's son, John Butetourte, aged 26, and Margaret's son, John de Sutton, aged 28.
2nd Lord Botetourt of Weoley.
His son and grandson both died before him, so he was succeeded by his granddaughter Joyce Burnell, and then by his daughters.
Said to have married Maud de Gray, daughter of the 1st Lord Grey of Rotherfield. But she married his son.

John de Botetourt, 2nd Lord Botetourt was born circa 1318.1 He was the son of Thomas de Botetourt and Joan de Somery.1 He married, firstly, Maud de Grey , daughter of Sir John de Grey, 1st Lord Grey of Rotherfield .1 He married, secondly, Joyce Zouche , daughter of William la Zouche, 1st Lord Zouche of Mortimer , before 31 May 1347.1 He died in 1385.1 He was buried at Halesowen, Shropshire, England .1 His will was probated in 1386 at Lambeth, London, England .2
John de Botetourt, 2nd Lord Botetourt succeeded to the title of 2nd Lord Botetourt [E., 1305] on 25 November 1324.1 On 16 July 1338 he had livery of his mother's lands.1 He fought in the French wars, where he distinguished himself.1 In 1341 he had livery of his father's lands.1
On his death, his barony is held to have become dormant until succeeded to by his granddaughter, Joyce.1

The manor (extent given) held of John Bardulf by service of a quarter of a knight’s fee, and suit at the court of Wrmegeye; 31a. land held of John de Sewal by service of 2s. 2d. yearly; 1a. land and 1a. pasture held of Thomas de la Haie by service of 11d. yearly; and 20a. land held of John de Bregham by service of 3s. 4d. yearly.

Writ of plenius certiorari because upon the king’s writ of certiorari super causa captionis, touching a third part of a messuage and 24a. land, which were of Joan de Botetourte, deceased, in Foxhale, co. Salop, the then escheator in cos. Gloucester, Salop &c. returned that he did not take any such lands &c. into the king’s hand, but that they were taken into the king’s hand by the late escheator of King Edward II, because Lucy late the wife of John de Someri, deceased, held them in dower, of the inheritance of the heir of the said John, and because the said Joan Butetourte and Margaret de Sutton, sisters and heirs of the said John, had not then prosecuted their claim thereto, and for no other cause, 16 February, 16 Edward III [1342].
SALOP. Inq. made at Claverleye, 12 March, 16 Edward III.
Foxhale. A third part of a messuage and of 24a. land, above mentioned, was taken into the hand of King Edward II by the then escheator, for the reasons above stated, and for no other, and so remains. It is held of Henry de Ferrariis, by service of 20 1/4d. yearly, and is of the inheritance of John son and heir of Margaret de Sutton, and of John son and heir of the said Joan de Butetourte.
The said John de Sutton and John Butetourte are the next heirs of that inheritance.
Writ of certiorari to the same effect as the above, 3 May, 16 Edward III.
