=== Life Sketch ===
Biography
Alice, whose parentage is so far unknown, became the second wife of John de Stourton, son of William de Stourton and his wife, Joan de Vernon.
Alice died in 1407.
Research note
"Item, I will that the aforesaid church (the church of Staverdale) shall be throughout (in omnibus) honestly paved with " Tyle " of my arms and the arms of my mother."
It is acknowledged, in The History of the Noble House of Stourton, that there is some confusion over the Stourton Pedigree. John de Stourton it says did have a wife, Alice, and speculates that she might have been Alice, widow of Ralph Basset died 1335 but that lady subsequently married Hugh Meynell and would have been far too old to have borne children to John de Stourton.
Disputed Marriages
There is a pedigree held at the College of Heralds that names the wives of John de Stourton as Catherine, daughter of Lord Beaumont and Jane Basset, daughter of Ralph, Lord Basset. Both The History of Modern Wiltshire and the History of the Noble House of Stourton maintain that Jane Basset was John's second wife though the latter does acknowledge that John also had a wife, Alice. The Complete Peerage (Stourton) refers to a pedigree of this family that commences with Botolph and says that it "was long ago disposed of by Round."

=== It is very confusing as to who Jane's pa ===
It is very confusing as to who Jane's parents are. The LDS Genealogical Departmant Medieval Families Unit has her father listed as Ralph Basset son of Ralph Basset and Alice Audley. Date wise, this would be correct. However, in the Complete Peerage entry for Ralph Basset c 1335, it lists him as having 1st married Catherine Beauchamp who died without an heir, then he married Joan (Jean) de Bretague. It further lists Ralph as having died May 10, 1390 without an heir and further lists that his widow obtained a grant April 23, 1398 for other lands. I believe that the listing in the LDS ancestral file in this case is most likely the truest of all the listings for Jane Basset. They have her attached to Ralph Basset son of Ralph Basset and Alice Audley without a listing of who her mother is. It seems likely she was an illegitimate daughter of Ralph Basset who more than likely predeceased him and his second wife giving her issue no claim to the Basset estate. According to Complete Peerage, the estate then reverted to possibly Ralph's nephew. Her birthdate might even be earlier than listed here if she were the product of a mistress occurring between the death of Ralph's first wife and his marriage to Joan de Bretagne at a time when he was in service to Parliament.
