He held no lands or tenements of the king in chief in demesne or in service. Long before his death he was seised of the manor of West Portlemouth in his demesne as of fee. Described as Thomas Hendor, esquire, lord of Brannel , he granted the manor, among other lands and tenements, by his indented charter shown in evidence to the jurors and dated at Brannel on 25 September 1431, to John Coppleston , John Jayeben , Otes Tregonan , Nicholas Ayston , John Tresythuy and William Person to hold for their lives of Thomas and his heirs by service of a rose at Midsummer for all service and secular demands according to the form contained more fully in the charter. John, John, Otes, Nicholas, John and William were seised as of free tenement with reversion to Thomas and his heirs. Thomas died seised of the reversion and rent of a rose.
West Portlemouth, the manor, there is the capital messuage, 5 other messuages and 5 cottages, worth nothing yearly; a watermill, worth 13s. 4d. yearly; 5 gardens, worth 5s. yearly; a carucate of land called demesne land, worth 20s. yearly; 10 a. meadow, worth 13s. 4d. yearly; 40 a. moor, furze and heath, worth 6s. 8d. yearly; and 24s. 4d. free rent from tenements within the manor by the hands of free tenants at Michaelmas, Christmas, Easter and Midsummer equally. The manor is held of William Wadham , service unknown.
He died on 11 October 1431. Richard his son is his next heir, aged 12 years and more. Long before Thomas’ death, Richard was married to Katherine, daughter of Robert Chamberleyn, esquire , and who survives.
