    Note: John Megre, citizen and pewterer, London Dated 26 August 1419 To be buried in the church or churchyard of St Mary Woolnoth in Lombard street; To the Church of St Mary Woolnoth, 26s 8d for tithes forgotten and £11 for its fabric; To wife Emma, all his lands and tenements in the parishes of St Mary Woolnoth and St Mary Woolchurch Haw for life, subject to charges for chantries in the church of St Mary Woolnoth; and by way of dower, all ustilments, utensils, and other necessaries appertaining to his dwellinghouse; Remainder to daughters Margaret and Lucy and the heirs of their respective bodies, with cross remainders; Further remainder to servant, John Nicholl junior, in tail, to Sir William Grodeswayn, rector, and churchwardens and parishioners of the church of St Mary Woolnoth, for maintenance of chantries for the good of his soul, observance of his obit, relief of the poor, etc., as directed; in default the property to go over to the Mayor and Commonalty of the City of London for like purposes; To Johanna and Beatrix, daughters of Margaret, and to Matilda and Isabella, daughters of Lucy, to each 100 marks for her marrage; To John the son of Lucy, 20 marks; To William the son of Lucy, 20L; To wife Emma, one half of the residue of his goods and chattels after discharge of liabilities; the other half to be devoted to the celebration of masses, relief of the poor, the repair of highways, and other works of charity including: 20 marks per annum in perpetuity for the support of two chaplains at St Mary Woolnoth, and support for a chaplain at St Mary Truro, Cornwall, for seven years, to say masses for the souls of John Megre, his wife Emma and their children; In Cornwall, bequests to the church of Kenwyn, Dominican friary at Truro, Franciscan friary at Bodmin, chapels of St Germoe and St Michael’s Mount, paupers of the parishes of Kenwyn, Truro and St Kea, and six leper houses; In London, bequests to the mendicant friars, lepers, paupers, the sick, and prisoners in the gaols of London and Westminster.
