=== Life Sketch ===
There is much confusion caused by early genealogists between Amabel de Grene, the sister of Thomas de Grene and the half sister of Henry de Grene, Lord de Drayton, also the daughter of Sir Henry de Grene, Chief Justice of the King's Bench, and his first wife Amabel, and this Amabel de Grene, the daughter of Sir Thomas de Grene and Margery Mablethorpe and niece of Henry de Grene. Part of this confusion is caused by there being three Ralph Reynes of Clifton, all three living in generational overlap to the two Amabel de Grenes, and three Henry de Grenes. It is known that an Amabel de Grene did marry into the Reynes family because its coat of arms, azure three bucks trippant, is in the Reynes altar tomb in Clifton Church. In a well researched genealogical book, The Descent of the Family of Deacon of Elstowe and London, written by Edward Deacon in 1898, the author agrees that the assignment of a marriage of the first Ralph Reynes, born before 1300 is an incorrect assignment, which is the assignment in the House of Greene by Robert Halstead (pseudonym of Henry Mordaunt) and the Greenes of Rhode Island by Louise Brownell Clarke. However, Deacon conjectured that it is the second Ralph Reynes, who was married to the first Amabel. The second Ralph Reynes was the younger brother of Sir Thomas Reynes, who inherited the family title and served as the sheriff of Buckinghamshire in 1370 and 1378. This seems to be the correct assignment, confused because the second Amabel de Grene was listed as the daughter of Thomas de Grene and Mary Talbot. The correct parents for the second Amabel de Grene are Thomas de Grene and Margery Mablethorpe, which puts her marriages and children in correct chronological alignment.
