Biography
Sir Roger de Cicester, the son of Roger de Cicester, was appointed Kinght circa 1347. He fought in the Battle of Poitiers, in 1356. [1] The Battle of Poitiers was a major English victory in the Edwardian phase of the Hundred Years' War. It was fought on 19 September 1356 in Nouaillé, near the city of Poitiers in Aquitaine, western France.
"Sir Roger Chichester was in the wars of France with King Edward, III, and having greatly distinguished himself therein, he was, after the siege of Calais, knighted by the King. He was afterwards at the battle of Poitiers, in 1356. He held in his own right the manor of Donwer, or Dumweer, in Somersetshire. He died about 1370, and was succeeded by his son. [2]
A child of Sir Roger is Sir John Chichester, who married Thomasine Raleigh, daughter of Sir John Raleigh, in 1384. He acquired Raleigh through his wife. He lived at Donwer, Someret, England. John died December 14, 1437
