Note: 19. iii. WILLIAM ECHYNGHAM18 was born in 1360 in Etchingham, Sussex, England. He died on 20 Mar 1412 in Echyngham, Sussex, England. He married (1) ALICE BATISFORD, daughter of William Batisford and Margery Pepelsham before 1395. She was born about 1370 in Kent,England. She died before 1400. He married (2) JOAN FITZALAN DE ARUNDEL, daughter of John Fitzalan de Arundel and Eleanor Maltravers about 1400 in Sussex, England19 . She was born about 1367. She died on 01 Sep 1404 in Echyngham, Sussex, England. Notes for Alice Batisford: In the Miscellenea Genealogica Vol 2 is a chart showing the descent of the Cralle family and it gives the information that Margery Peplesham was married lst to Robert Cralle and 2nd to Wm Batisford. It gives Alice as a daughter who married Wm. Echyngham and had a daughters Joan & Elizabeth. . She died about 1398-9 as her mother did not mention her in the will in 1406 and also Wm Echyngham had married Joan Fitzalan probably after 1398 99 so I would say she died after 1398 as she is on deed with William in 1398 . We know that Wm was married to Joan Fitzalan before abt 1400 and we find a legal document for them dated 1400. also the chancery court case PRO C1/19/280-290 states that Joan and Elizabeth are sisters and their Mother was Alice Batisford and they sued their cousin Richard Fiennes for part of the manor of Buckholt which was the Batisford estate. 21 Richard II. 2679.
