=== Life Sketch ===
Sir Otto Bodrugan was the son of Henry Bodrugan and Sibylla Maundevill. He married Margaret , daughter of Sir William Champernon, and had sons Henry, William, Otto & Nicholas.
Of Otto's sons:
Henry died shortly after his father, aged 20, leaving no issue by his wife Isabelle Whalesborough;
William was heir to his brother William died leaving only a daughter Elizabeth the wife of Richard Sergeaux; she died without issue
Otto was heir to his brother William
SIR OTTO DE BODRUGAN was in 17 and 19 Edward II. a knight of the shire; and 20 Edward I. had custody of the island of Lundy with its appendages committed to his charge. In 1324 he went by the king's license on a pilgrimage to the Church of St. James in Spain. He married Margaret, daughter of Sir William Champernon, knight, and died possessed of Bodrugan, and of a considerable estate in Cornwall in 6 Edward III.; at which date his son and heir Sir Henry de Bodrugan was likewise deceased."
NOTE: THIS ACCOUNT IS CORRECT UP TO THIS POINT. HOWEVER IT THEN GOES ON TO SAY THAT HENRY THE SON OF OTTO HAD 3 SONS: WILLIAM, OTTO & NICHOLAS. THIS IS WRONG AS IS ATTESTED BY HENRY'S IPM. THE ALLEGED 3 SONS WERE IN FACT HENRY'S BROTHERS.

268 Writ mandamus 1 June 1419. [Wymbyssh]. Teste John, duke of Bedford.
Cornwall. Inquisition. Grampound. 23 Sept. [Copleston].
Jurors: Ralph Trenewyth ; Richard Trevaignon ; William Tregonan ; Richard Penwern ; Thomas Tregogra ; John Tregennov ; Odo Filpot ; Thomas Pyken ; Richard Tregonwall ; Ralph Tredynan ; Michael Ruthvos ; and John Trevulgartyn .268_001
He held the manors of Tremodrett, Trevillian and Trefreock in fee tail. Herbert Skewyek held them in his demesne as of fee and gave them to Otes de Bodrugan, knight , and his heirs male lawfully begotten on the body of his wife Margaret, with remainders if he died without such heirs successively to his heirs male of his own body and then to his right heirs. He held in fee tail in such form and had issue by Margaret, William and Otes. William entered and died without an heir male of his body. They descended to Otes as brother and heir under the entail. He had issue Joan, now the wife of Robert Hulle senior , and died without male issue. Thus Otes the father had no surviving male issue of either Margaret's or his own body. Joan is the daughter and next heir by blood of Otes named in the writ, begotten of his body, and the heir of Otes the father by virtue of the entail. Tremodrett manor was held of Richard II of the duchy of Cornwall at the death of Otes by 3 knight's fees and by a fine of 5s. at the stannary at Michaelmas, annual value £7; Trevillian of John Hille in socage of the manor of Penare of the duchy of Cornwall, annual value £5. The rest was held of Edward Courtenay, earl of Devon .
He died on 1 Sept. 1389. Joan was then aged 30 years and more.
Richard Sergeaux, knight , and John Shireston held the manors from 1 Sept. 1389 to 29 Sept. 1393. From that date Alice, countess of Oxford , John Shireston and Thomas Warner, knight , held until Michaelmas 1404.

269 Writ plenius certiorari 7 July 1419 [Wymbyssh]. Teste John, duke of Bedford.
Recites findings of a 1417 inquisition before John Fortescu, late escheator in Cornwall CIPM XX, no. 646, inter alia that 'Ferbert de Akewyek' [sic] granted the manors of Tremodrett and Trevelyn with other lands to Otes de Bodrugan, knight , in tail, and that the manors descended to Joyce, now the wife of Robert Hull senior . Robert and his wife have alleged that she is named Joan and not Joyce, that it was Herbert Skewyek and not the Ferbert Akewyek who granted the manors, and that before the inquisition was returned to Chancery the names Joan and Herbert Skewyek were scraped off and Joyce and Ferbert Akewyek substituted, to their great damage [the 1417 inquisition presently on file, C 138/23/53 m. 25, in fact refers to Joan and Herbert Skewyek and does not appear to have been altered as alleged]. Inquire as to the names of the wife and the grantor, and as to Joan's age.

Jurors: Ralph Trenewyth ; Richard Treuaygnon ; William Tregonan ; Richard Penwern ; Thomas Tregorra ; John Tregennew ; Otes Filpot ; Thomas Pyken ; Richard Tregonwall ; Ralph Tredynan ; Michael Ruthfos ; and John Trevulgarthyn .269_001
The wife of Robert Hull was called Joan, not Joyce (Josia), and Herbert Skewyek gave the manors of Tremodrett and Trevelyn with other manors etc. in Cornwall to Otes de Bodrugan, knight , and his heirs male by his wife Margaret, remainders successively to his heirs male of his body and then to his heirs of his body. Ferbert de Akewyek did not give them to Otes the father and his heirs by Margaret, nor was there ever any Ferbert de Akewyek known or heard of in the county.
Otes de Bodrugan son of Otes de Bodrugan, knight , died on 1 Sept. 1389. Joan is the daughter and heir of Otes son of Otes, and was aged about 30 years and more at her father's death.

Note: Marie Rosewarne added this note below in all caps. The IPMs, or Inquisitions Post Mortem, provide a lot of information on this family, and this is in regard to her opinion and interpretation of some IPMs. It should be noted that they are not always 100% correct, i.e. the birth dates or ages of children in the Sergeaux family vary widely in each of a half dozen IPM's. They are also subject to interpretation since several men of the same name are alive in the same century, and keeping the generations apart can be confusing. Marie disagrees with some of the generations within the Cole Family Pedigree Charts which were assembled from heraldic Visitation pedigrees. (She has altered my "Notes" in sources and deleted many of the IPM's I have attached in the tree.) Personally, I believe all sources should be attached, and comments made about them in an effort to share information and collaborate. Maybe she just used all caps to distinguish her note from the quoted text.
THIS SOURCE IS INCORRECT IN STATING THAT NICHOLAS BODRUGAN WAS THE SON OF HENRY BODRUGAN AND ISABELLA WHALESBOROUGH. HENRY DIED, AGED 20, LEAVING NO HEIRS AS IS MADE CLEAR IN HIS IPM. HIS NEXT HEIR WAS HIS BROTHER WILLIAM. NICHOLAS WAS ANOTHER BROTHER OF HENRY AND SON OF OTTO.
Cole ancestry begins on page 618.
"Family histories and genealogies" provides the family information for the Bodrugan family. Henry de Bodrugan "married Sibylla, sister and heir to Walter de Maundeville. Henry was a knight of the shire in the 35th year of Edward I [1307]; and in the 3rd year of Edward II (1310) he was summonded to Parliament as a Baron, but died about this time. He was seised of the manor of Tregerion, etc., in Cornwall. His son Sir Otto de Bodrigan was in the 17th year of Edward II. a knight of the shire [1324]; in 1324 he went by the King's license on a religious pilgrimage to Spain. He married Margaret daughter of Sir William Champernon, Knt.
"Sir Otto de Bodrigan died in the 6th year of Edward III. [1333], possessed of Bodrugan and a considerable estate in Cornwall. His son Sir Henry de Bodrugan married Isabell, daughter of William Wallesborow of Whalesborough, in Cornwall, and had Nicholas, who had Nicholas, whose daughter and heir Anne married Sir John Cole of Nythway. Segar [Garter King of Arms who was authorized to conduct the heraldic Visitations] remarks that "This match of Sir John Cole, Knt., with the daughter and heiress of Nicholas Bodrugan, and the descents following, are proved by divers auncient Rolls, Bookes, and Pedigrees, remaining in the Office of Arms, London, 1630.""

Note: There are 33 pages of Charts of the Cole Family and the collateral lines drawn from the original Cole Pedigree dated 1585. This is copied from the original Roll, in the possession of the Right Honourable the Earl of Enniskillen.
This information was compiled by Sir William Segar, Garter in 1630, referencing the family of Thomas Cole who compiled the Escheats. William Segar, Garter was the Principall King of Armes. Wikipedia: Sir William Segar (c. 1554–1633) was a portrait painter and officer of arms to the court of Elizabeth I of England; he became Garter King of Arms under James I. He had the responsibility of granting coats of arms to noble families.
THE PEDIGREE AS IT RELATES TO THE BODRUGAN FAMILY CONTAINS ERRORS. Firstly, it incorrectly shows that Henry Bodrugan the son of Otto, and his wife Isabelle Whalesborough, had 3 sons: William, Otto & Nicholas. This is wrong. the 3 sons were in fact his brothers. Henry died, aged 20, leaving no issue, his next heir being his brother William. This is evident from Henry's IPM. Secondly, the pedigree conflates William the bastard son of Otto Bodrugan with William Bodrugan the son of Ralph Treneweth. This is an unreliable source in so far at it relates to the Bodrugan family.
Page: The first several pedigree charts include the Bodrugan family line.
