=== Life Sketch ===
Biography
Father Sir Giles de Brewes, Lord of Ahenham, Whitinton, Clopton, & Hasketon b. c 1273, d. c 6 Feb 1311[1] [2]
Mother Joan de Beaumont [1][2]
Sir John de Brewes, Lord of Stinton was born on 10 August 1306 at of Stinton in Salle, Corpusty, Heydon, & Olton, Norfolk, England.[1][2]
Sir John de Brewes, Lord of Stinton married Eva de Ufford, daughter of Sir Robert Ufford, 1st Lord Ufford and Cecily de Valoines; They had 1 son (Sir John) and 1 daughter (Cecily, wife of Sir William Kerdeston).[2][3] [1]
He died after 1374; Buried at Woodbridge Priory, Suffolk.[1][2][3]
Family
Eva de Ufford d. a May 1370[1][2][3]
Children
Sir John de Brewes, Sheriff of Norfolk & Suffolk b. c 1332, d. bt 1394 - 1402[1][2][3]
Cecily de Brewes, wife of Sir William Kerdeston b. c 1333, d. a 1401[1][2][3]
These are the two children listed in Douglas Richardson’s ‘’Magna Carta Ancestry’’. There is, though, good evidence for at least one other daughter:
Alice de Brewes who married first, William de Cailly, and second, Roger Newent. According to An Essay Towards a Topographical History of Norfolk, "Alice, widow of Sir William Caly, and Cecilia de Kerdeston, were sisters, and daughters of Sir John de Brews of Topcroft ; and in the 8th of Richard II. the Lady Cecilia de Kerdeston calls Alice, widow of Sir Roger Newent, her sister.”[4]
Less certain is a further possible daughter:
Margaret Braose who married William Witchingham, to whom John de Brewes bequeathed a silver cup.[5]
Notes
"Sir John de Brewes by his will [Reg. Haydon fol. 11] dated in May 1370 he requires to be buried in the chancel, gives to Sir John de Brews, one of his best horses, to the lady Eve his wife, 5 marks and a silver cup with a cover, to Sir John de Brews, junior 40s. to Giles his brother 40s. the lady Margaret, wife of Sir William de Wychingham, a silver cup with a cover; he was chancellor to the bistiop of Norwich."[6]
