When Sir John Libertine Forrester, Lord of Corstorphine, was born in 1320, in Corstorphine, Midlothian, Scotland, his father, Sir Adam Forrester, Laird, was 26 and his mother, Agnes Margaret Dundas, was 26. He had at least 2 sons and 1 daughter with Baroness Jean Sinclair. He died in 1350, in Midlothian, Scotland, at the age of 30.

Corstorphine is a village and parish to the west of Edinburgh, now considered a suburb of that city.
Corstorphine retains a busy high street with many independent shops. Traffic on the main street, St John's Road, is often heavy, as it forms part of the A8 main road between Edinburgh and Glasgow.

!Scott's Peerage Forrester, Lord Forrester pg 80-85+; Sir John Forrester, of Corstorphine, took a leading part in public affairs, and held the office of Duputy Chamberlain South of the Forth in 1405-06. On 30 Dec 1407 he had a confirmation of a charter by Henry St Clair, Earl of Orkney, of an annualrent of twelve merks out of the lands and collieries of Dysart in consideration of an advance by him to the Earl of 300 gold nobles, English money. On 3 Mar 1407-08 he had a confirmation of a charter to him- self and his wife Margaret by Sir John Drummond of Cargill of the lands of Ochtertyre, co. Stirling. He was one of the Commissioners sent to Enmgland to treat for the release of King James I in 1416, and was made Keeper of the Great Seal by the Duke of Albany when he became Governor in 1420. In 1424 he was appointed Master of the Household, to stay with the young King, with whom he was a great favourite. On 10 Jul 1426 a whole series of charters was granted to him, being confirmations of the lands of Corstorphine, Drylaw, Nether Liverton and Meadowfield, together with the lands of Clerkington; all which were united into the barony of Liberton, and lands in Longniddry and Ochtertyre. On the death of Henry St. Clair, Earl of Buchan at the battle of Verneuil, 17 Aug 1424, his office of Chamberlain was bestowed on Sir John. On 2 Mar 1424-25 he founded a chaplainry in St. Giles, Edinburgh, for the souls of the King and Queen, of his own father and mother, and his deceased wife Margaret (whom died in 1409.) On 24 Feb 1425-26 the King founded three chap- lainries in corstorphine church for the souls of the same persons, and grant- ed Forrester the patronage of the chaplainries. He was one of the jury in the trial of Murdac, Duke of Albany, in May 1425. On 25 Jun 1429 he is named as John Forrester, baron of Liberton, one of the Scots Commissioners for a truce with England; he also founded the collegiate church of Corstorphine, though the papal bull for its erection w as not issued till 15 Jul 1544. In 1448 the last mention of him before his death he is know as Chamberlain. He was buried in Corstorphine church, where the recumbent effigies of himself and one of his wives are still to be seen.
