- Occupation: Captain of King Richard II's BodyguardBET 1390 AND 1399 with note: See "The Ancient Bostock Family of Bostock" source, p.13:
"Adam was a faithful supporter of King Richard II and became one of the captains of his bodyguard. The guard consisted of hand-picked Cheshire men who were split into six watches, the captains of which were: Thomas de Beeston, Richard de Cholmondeley, Ralph de Davenport (whose father's effigy lies in Astbury church), Thomas de Holford, John de Legh and Adam de Bostock. The men of these watches were described by contemporaries as ‘arrogant, insolent ruffians, who were on far too intimate terms with the King' and as 'bestial men who were ready for any iniquity'. The archers who formed the guard wore a uniform of green and white tunics, divided vertically, with green to the wearer’s right – a traditional form of clothing for Cheshire archers...
...On 17 September 1397 King Richard used his Cheshire archers to overawe the high court of Parliament in order that it would yield to his personal direction; some even drew back their bows within the precincts of Westminster Hall. Some of the family may have escorted one of Richard’s leading opponents, the earl of Arundel, to execution on Tower Hill. The royal bodyguard followed Richard and his court everywhere and remained with him until the end when, in 1399 Henry Bolingbroke captured him on returning from Ireland. The King constantly rewarded his captains and we find Adam receiving £20 a year in 1398 and then in October of that year a half share of £200 due from the assets seized from a man who had escaped custody...."

Each of them had to make special arrangements to sue for their pardons and to encourage them to do so their properties were declared forfeit. ADAM (X), Lord of Bostok, born Aug 15, 1363, died 1415. Aet. 6,43 Edw. III. (1370); Act. 21, 8 Rich. II. (1384)Inq. p.m. 2 Hen. V. (1415). He fount at the battle of Shrewbury. Married Jonet, daughter of Sir Henry de Bradshaw, Lord of Bradshaw.
"The Bostoks were closely connected with Vale Royal, where several members of the family were monks.
Adam de Bostok was retained by King Richard for life, and received an annuity of 100s as by Recog. Rolls, 21 and 22 Rich.. II (1397-1398)
The King appear to have been preparing for war, perhaps in Ireland, and an extraordinary number of unidentified members of the Bostok family occur in the same year, from Dec.-Jan 21 Rich. II (1397), in appintments very popular in the county, chiefly among younger sons and other gentry, as archers of the livery of the Crown, a post which seems to have been of honor and value.
[List of de Bostoks]...were appointed , with 6d a day each, for life, a sum equal to the revenues of some manors. One of these Davids was grantee of an annuity of 100s. for life, same year, as was likewise Richard de Bostok, Armiger, 22 Rich. II. (1398)."
Note: The cited genealogy continues with extensive detail of Adam's loyalty to Richard II, and the mix up in Percy's Rebellion, which was not likely pursued, as he appears in subsequent commissions. (p26)
