He was living in 1337 when he witnessed a charter of John, Bishop of Exeter. He was Lord of Ryme, Dorset and of Oburnford, Oulescombe, Teignhervy and Buckerell, Devon. He had probably died by 1346 when his son, John, was probably the John Beauchamp holding the manors of Ryme, Dorset, and Oburnford, Devon.

John Beauchamp, of Hatch aforesaid, son and heir, was b. 25 July 1274, and had seizin of his father's lands, 17 Sep 1295. He was in the Scottish wars and was summoned, 26 Jan 1296/7, to attend the King at Salisbury. He was summoned to Parliament 29 Dec 1299 to 24 Aug 1336, by writs directed "Johanni de Bello Campo de Somerset," whereby he may be held to have become Lord Beachamp. He was knighted with the Prince of Wales, 22 May 1306. In 1321 he succeeded to the extensive estates of his mother, which included Sturminster Marshal, Dorset, Bullingham, co. Cambridge, etc. Governor of Bridgewater Castle 1325. He m. in or before 1301, Joan, said to have been daughter of ? Chenduit. She d. 9 Feb 1327. He d. 1336, after 20 Oct, aged 62. [Complete Peerage]

John de Beauchamp, who was summoned to parliament as a baron by the style of "Iord de Bello Campo (de Somerset)," on 29 December, 1229, 28th of Edward I, and in the 34th of the same reign [1306] was one of the distinguished persons who received the honour of knighthood with Price Edward, the king's eldest son, being in the expedition made into Scotland in that year. In the 8th of Edward II [1315], his lordship was again in the Scottish wars; and in the 14th of the same king he succeeded to the very extensive landed possessions of his mother, comprising the manor of Sturminster-Marshal, in the co. Dorset, a moiety of the manor of West Kington, in the co. Wilts, of the whole manor of Wadmersh, in the co. Surrey, of the manor of Bullingham, in the co. Cambridge, also the hamlets of Watweton and Widecombe. In the two years afterwards Lord Beauchamp was made governor of the castle of Bridgewater. In the 7th of Edward III (1333-4), he obtained license to fortify his manor houses at Hacche, Estokes, and South Hainedon, and to embattle their walls. His lordship d.. in 1336, up to which period he had regular summonses, and was s. by his son, John de Beauchamp, 2nd Lord Beauchamp, of Hacche. In 1299 he was created by writ Baron Beauchamp "de Somerset". At some time before 1301 he married Joan Chenduit. He died between October and December 1336.
