- Life Sketch: with note: Description: BARONY of PECCHE (I) 1321
I think this should be Gilbert Pecche, Baron of Bourne. Sir John Pecche, presumed to be son and heir [of John by Joan], was in the King's service in Scotland almost continuously from Jan 1297/8, certainly till 1304. As Sir John Pecche, Knight, he presented to Honily, Aug 1305. He served in various capacities in co Warwick 1317-21, and was summoned to Parliament from 15 May 1321 to 22 Jan 1335/6 by writs directed Johanns Pecche, whereby he was held to have become LORD PECCHE. On 6 Nov 1321 he was appointed keeper of the town and castle of Warwick. The following day he was commanded to abstain from the meeting at Doncaster of the "Good Peers" summoned by the Earl of Lancaster, and in Feb 1321/2 was ordered to raise forces in co. Warwick and lead them to the King. He fought at Boroughbridge, 16 Mar, as a banneret, on the King's side. He was summoned for service in Scotland, 1322 and 1323 (being excused the latter campaign), and for service in Gascony, in person, 1324 and 1325 (receiving excemption July 1325). In Nov 1325 he was appointed Constable of Dover Castle and Warden of the Cinque Ports. As a knight of cos. Warwick and Gloucester he was returned by the sheriffs as summoned to the Great Council to be held at Westminster, 30 May 1324; and was summoned to another, of the "Magnates", to be held at Winchester, 3 Mar 1324/5. He was made Keeper of Corfe Castle, 16 Dec 1325. In 1327 he had a final summons for service against the Scots, in June 1328 was summoned to a Council at York, and in June 1329 to a conference at Windsor; but in the following March, being implicated in the Earl of Kent's conspiracy (in the belief that Eward II was still alive), he was arrested, and was to be brought before the King after Easter. He "rendered himself to the King's will", and received back his lands and goods in August.
He m. 1stly, ____. He m. 2ndly, in or before 1326, Eleanor, widow of Ralph de Gorges (Lord Gorges), who d. circa 1323. He d. presumably, about 1335. His widow was living in July 1341. [Complete Peerage X:342-3]
