Brendan,
The ancestry of Thomas Warcop, as given in Bodine, Ronnie O & Spalding, Bro.

Owsley. - (1999 3rd Prelim Edition). pp 147, 193 and Gen 15 extension part 3
provides the following details only:

2. Henry de Warcop of Warcop, died 1325.
3. Gundreda de Helbeck
6. Thomas de Helbeck of Helbeck, Westmorland, died after 1291.

Ian,
The information you provide is for Isabel de Warcop/Warthecop, wife of
William English/Engleys of Helbeck and Highmead in Westmoreland. The subject
of the thread suggest a different Isabel. I know that the Isabel you posted
about was the second wife of William English and ancestor of the Haringtons
of Farleton, but do you have information which connects Isabel de Warcop to
William, Bishop of Carlisle of the subject title?
Thanks,
Hap

Hap & Brendan,
I had Isabel de Warcop as being married to both William Engleys and William
Strickland, with her ancestral details I previously listed pertaining to the
William Engleys marriage.
However, in checking the chronology it shows that the son of William Engleys
was b. abt. 1314 and the da. of William Strickland b. bef. 1365. This
suggests that there are two Isabels, perhaps a generation apart, and I have
no further information that would assist in linking them.
While I do not have it to hand, there are references to HoP 1386-1421 vol
III p 305 and p 639 that may offer a few more notes.
Thanks for highlighting the problem.
Ian

William de Strikeland and R. le Englays appear as jpurors in 1291 in a
dispute between King Edward I and the abbot of St. Marys York, concerning
the advowson of the church of St. Laurence Appleby.
History and Antiquities of the Counties of Cumberland and Westmoreland
Nicholson and Burns. p. 341.
William de Warthecopp was one of the jurors that investigated the
unfortunate treatment of Robert de Veteriponte, son of John and Sybil de
Ferrars by the prior of Carlisle. And on the death of this Robert who m.
Isabel Fitz John, Richard de Warthecop was a commissioner for making the
partition betwen Isabel and Idonea. p. 602
This source goes on to say there was a succession of Thomases, mentioned
first in 4 E 3 as representing the co. of Westmoreland in Parliament;another
knight of the shire in 50 E3; another 4 R 2. In 10 H 5 on the death of John
de Clifford, Robert de Warcop was escheator for the king; and Thomas Warcop
of Lambertfeat and Thomas Warcop of Colby (who married the heiress there)
were two of the jurors. There was then also one Thomas Warcop of
Warcop...and another who married a coheir of Sandford. p. 605
