«b»Research Notes«/b»
According to Richardson (Royal Ancestry, IV:140 MONTFORT 9), the John Montfort who married Joan Clinton was an illegitimate son of Peter (the Peter who was heir to his brother John in 1314). And that Joan Clinton (this Joan Clinton) is, according to Richardson, the "daughter and heiress of John de Clinton, Knt., of Coleshill, Warwickshire, by Joan, daughter of Roger Hillary, Knt., Chief Justice of the Common Pleas. She was born about 1341." John and Joan (Clinton) Montfort had one son:
1.) Baldwin de Montfort, Knt., "married Margaret de Clinton, daughter of John de Clinton, Knt., 3rd Lord Clinton, by Idoine, daughter of Geoffrey de Say, Knt., 2nd Lord Say".
«b»Detached Profile:«/b» John de Clinton is her father, but not the John represented by Clinton-8, whose profile has his death date as 1313 as of 27 January 2020. Her father was born about 1304 and died about 1353/4.
British History Online (BHO), detailing the ownership of Coleshill Manor, notes that Jane's father inherited Coleshill Manor when he was 12 at his grandfather's death in 1316. His grandfather, also John, was the second son of Thomas Clinton who died in 1278. Thomas had settled the manor on him in 1259. Thomas Clinton who died in 1278 has a WikiTree profile - Clinton-207 - but reading the biography, it appears to be a different Thomas Clinton than the one described in the BHO article. Also, I may not have correctly interpreted who the grandfather of Jane's father was from the BHO passage (although the "He...then described as John de Clinton the elder" is definitely the 2nd son of Thomas mentioned earlier in the BHO article):
"He was then described as John de Clinton the elder. He died in 1316, holding the manor of the young son and heir of John de Clinton of Maxstoke. His heir was his 12-year-old grandson, John, who subsequently married a daughter of Sir Roger Hilary, and died in 1353 or 1354 leaving one daughter Joan. She as her first husband married Sir John de Montfort, illegitimate son of Sir Peter de Montfort of Beaudesert."
