ir William was a faithful adherent of Robert the Bruce and accompanied the Earl of Moray and Sir James Douglas in their expedition into England in 1327. For his valour he was knighted under the royal banner in the field. While attempting to draw the English archers into an ambush he was taken prisoner, but was shortly exchanged for an English prisoner. He was alive in 1331 when he is referred to as a creditor of the late King Robert.
