  Biography
  Few sources have been found that provide biographical data on the life of Alexander de Bonkyl, other than those that merely reference him as the father of Margaret, his heir, and wife of Sir John Stewart and Sir David de Brechin. It is known that Alexander was married to a woman named Crestiene, as she had petitioned Edward I for dower following Alexander's death. He was still living shortly before 27th April 1300, when during an inquisition of his Cumberland properties, it was found that his daughter was an enemy of Scotland. It is unknown if Crestiene was the mother of Margaret.
