Alexander Hoo
Alexander Hoo1
M, #33043, b. circa 1225
Father: Sir Robert Hoo d. 1 Aug 1166
Mother: Rosamond Chelteron
Alexander Hoo married Dernell of Scotland, daughter of Alexander II, King of Scotland and
=== Alexander was that old when these things happened? ===
Alexander had to have been in his 70's when his son was born? not to mention in his late 50's when he married according to these dates?
=== A missing Hoo? ===
If Alexander's father was born around 1130, a reasonable birth year for Alexander would be around 1150.
There are 2 dates of birth listed among the genealogy sites for Alexander - 1166 (which happens to be the year of his father Robert's death) and 1200.
If it's 1166, isn't that just someone deciding that he couldn't have born any later than that, given his father's death date? But that would have made Alexander nearly 50 years older than his wife, Dernell/Darnell, who was born in 1215.
If it's 1200, which better matches Alexander's age to his wife's age, then he would have to have been born over 30 years after the death of Robert.
Not to mention, if his death date is really 1241 - and that date seems to be constant despite his arbitrary birth dates - then he would have been fighting in Greece in the Crusades either at age 41 (plausible) or at age 75 (definitely implausible).
What makes more sense to me is that Robert is actually Alexander's grandfather and that there's a missing generation. For all we know, yet another Robert. But the math here doesn't work for me at all.
Adding to my note: I just found a Robert Hoo, born about 1165 (G46J-S6C) that has Alexander as his son. Of course there's no source for this record, and Robert has no father attached, but it sure looks like it could be the missing generation to me. Sure wish I could prove it.
